I was confused/startled/baffled by this, and I stopped/paused/halted to think/contemplate/ponder about it. Why had the other set of footprints/tracks/impressions disappeared? Where had they gone/vanished/faded? I looked/scanned/searched around, but there was no sign/indication/clue as to what had happened.
